Enrique Kayejero
“I come from the most impoverished part of the country. I have had the opportunity of walking through several places, and I realize that all people are the same, everyone has their problems. What matters is the essence of the person.”
Enrique Kayejero studied Fine Arts at the Costa Rica University. He creates moving pieces which convert his early life experiences of violence and poverty into inspiration and reflection in colourful abstrations. “I like where I grew up because that is precisely what my paintings are about, the violence I witnessed at a very early age, I use it, but not in a negative, aggressive or sensationalist way, but as parts of me reflected on parts of the works,” he shares. “I want the work to be the most coherent possible, the cleanest, and I think that's how my head works. So much disorder, things that I have seen things that I have learned are there going around.”
Kayejero’s has shown his work locally and internationally. He is also part of numerous private collections. “I put a little of everything that is in me into my works. Not only in a crude way, and other times quieter, depends on certain moments and what you want to interpret.”
